“I’m 68 years old, but I’m actually, for sure, much better than when I was at 40, and possibly even when I was 30,” said Center for Brain Training client Stan*, who experienced striking improvement after short-term neurostimulation treatments for insomnia and stroke.
Stan arrived at the Center late last year sleep-deprived, anxious, and disoriented. Two summers ago, he had suffered a stroke and couldn’t exercise, turn his head fully, or get up and down off the floor without assistance. He had no energy, and the stroke left him with chronic, blurry vision in his right eye. His ophthalmologist told him the distorted vision was permanent.
“I was always slightly dizzy and nauseous as I moved around, because my eyes were just so unhappy. My brain just couldn’t figure out where it was in space… So that’s a pretty dramatic thing to live with every day,” he explained.
Stan doesn’t live with that drama anymore. After 8 or 9 sessions at the Center, his symptoms noticeably improved. He said during one personalized, neuro-stimulation session, the blurred vision cleared completely.
“It (the right eye) works perfectly. It works literally, as well as the left eye,” he said. Not only that, but Stan likes to demonstrate how he can “pop” up off the floor. He brags about his long walks with his wife and his renewed ability to parallel park. His anxiety disappeared and his sleep is more restful. Where his sense of energy had once felt “stuck,” he now says it flows freely. “It was like a switch flipped,” he explained.
Perhaps equally important is Stan’s renewed sense of optimism.
“Nobody had offered me hope before,” he said. “Everyone just treated symptoms. But this place — this team — looked deeper. They didn’t just treat me like an old man with a stroke. They helped me see what was still possible.”
